This was Lake's attempt at duplicating the success of "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" by featuring his real-life family. This was an unsold pilot for syndication. The only redeeming factors here are the guest cast, which included Hans Conried and Walter Catlett.

A Universal Army enlistment promotion, produced as a musical showcase for Harry James, the Andrews Sisters, Joe E. Lewis, and Donald O'Connor & Peggy Ryan. The film's thin plot has James drafted, and joining him is the band's lead vocalist Lon Prentice (Dick Foran), who doesn't believe that Army training and regulations are necessary for anyone of his skill and fame. Shemp Howard steals the film whenever James and the Andrewses aren't performing.

Here's a very funny1936 Comedy Romance for you!
Even my husband (the more serious type ;-) laughed out loud several times while watching this. Large-mouthed funny-man Joe E. Brown, "Natural Born Salesman and Master Mechanic", and Guy Kibee, grouchy, old-fashioned Lumberman, both did comedy well! Notice the mechanics of the "Earthworm" (Caterpillar) Tractors! Maybe the farmer's most useful "tool" has a historical time-capsule in this funny
I hope you enjoy this film! Let me know if you'd like me to dig for more Comedies to share, ok? The Cast and movie trivia is listed below.
Here's a little Trivia: "Fredrick Schmitt, from Peoria, IL, was the stunt tractor driver for Joe E. Brown. Fredrick was a long-time employee of Caterpillar at when this movie was filmed." (IA shab93, July 13, 2014--thank you!)
"This film is based on characters created by William Hazlett Upson. He wrote stories for Saturday Evening Post and introduced Alexander Botts, A Natural Born Salesman, and The Earthworm Tractor Company (based on his previous work with Caterpillar Tractors) in 1927 which lasted until his death in 1975." (Thanks Wikipedia!)
Joe E. Brown as Alexander Botts

Dr Pepper Commercial - I'm a Pepper - Be A Pepper
70's Burger King Commercial
Big Wheel Commercial by Marx
The U.S. Patent Office recognizes December 1, 1885, as the first time Dr Pepper was served. It was introduced nationally in the United States at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition as a new kind of soda pop, made with 23 flavors. Its introduction in 1885 preceded the introduction of Coca-Cola by one year.
"Dr Pepper Time", according to one promotion, was at 10, 2 and 4 o'clock. During World War II, a syndicated radio program, The 10–2–4 Ranch (later titled 10–2–4 Time), aired in the South and other areas where Dr Pepper was distributed. The show featured the Sons of the Pioneers and Dick Foran. In the 1960s, the tune of the chorus of "The Glow-Worm" was used in ads, with lyrics which ended, "It's Dr Pepper Time!"
In the 1960s, Dr Pepper released the "Charge" ad:

Dick Foran (1910-1979) was nothing if not versatile! From a radio singer in the early crooner style, to singing cowboy roles in many westerns, he also tackled Broadway in Rodgers and Hart's A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. In the 1943 revival, Foran played opposite Vera-Ellen, known primarily as a dancer. I believe (but am not certain) that it is Vera-Ellen singing here. If anyone has this information, i would be grateful to hear from you, and I can edit the description. Foran reminds me a great deal of Nelson Eddy, and he was certainly as believable as a singing cowboy as Eddy was as a Canadian Mountie!
